New Tecumseth is really two towns wearing one name, an old downtown grid and a ring of subdivisions that keeps expanding around it.
Two growth eras under one roof
New Tecumseth came together in 1991 when Alliston amalgamated with Beeton, Tottenham and the surrounding township, and Alliston has stayed the largest of the three and the practical centre of town, with the Boyne River running right through the middle of it. Honda of Canada Manufacturing has operated its plant on the edge of Alliston since 1986, and the steady employment it brought has pulled residential growth outward from the original Victoria Street grid for close to two decades now, filling in one subdivision phase after another. Those newer homes run PEX manifold systems and PVC or ABS drainage, which holds up structurally but is only as good as the fixtures and water heater a builder specs to hit a price point.
Victoria Street and the original grid
Walk into the older part of town near Victoria Street and the picture flips entirely. A lot of those houses still carry original galvanized supply lines and narrow clay or cast drains, neither sized for how a modern household actually uses water.
